Troubled Sites and the Challenge of Sustainable Urban Development

This project involves quantitative and qualitative research on environmental rating systems, sustainable building standards, and design principles being co-opted by local pro-growth planning coalitions. The Urban Environment Lab is identifying the links and conflicts between decision-makers at different levels shaping the local contexts of green development. To this end, our goal is to create a comparative framework between cities and regions and explain how cultural and political classifications enable and constrain the limits on green urban development in the United States.
